Representations
The female character is initially presented as innocent and a young sweet bubbly girl who is simply in love however as the film progresses we learn this girl is seriously island has serious issues and is seriously in love with a man she barely knows, we learn this when she meets his in the toilet and learn the pair are not as close as we initially thought, and are simply neighbours who aren't very close.
The narrative works very well to hide the way she is presented by only initially showing her side of the story and only showing the way she views things and only her side of the situations, when we do learn the other side of the story we learn how seriously ill she is when we see the other side of the story, the narrative also changes the lighting and songs used in the film to change the shift of the play from a very romantic film to a very deep and dark film
The mise-en-scene reflects the change in the film by the change in colours and drastic change in the sounds used and the colours the female character wears, initially the songs are very romantic and happy and lots of bright florescent colours are used but when the other side of the story is shown lots of darker and deeper colours are used to show the problems the girl has and lots of darker colours are used to show the darker side to the girl and the problems she is actually facing despite her seeming very happy and bubbly at the start of the film.
